As the title suggests, this is a collection of musical pieces that tries to demonstrate my somewhat eclectic tastes in music.
You may find some of my influences easy to spot and others not so easy!
I've tried to explain how these tracks came into existence and how they evolved over the period of time it took to make this album. Click on the 'view' button on each of the tracks on the track listing on this page or go to :
This track was born in a moment of madness. I love movie music and James Bond themes fall into that category. I wanted to try and write a pseudo Bond theme and this is what I came up with.
This is the song that I really wanted Robert Bruce to sing and I love Robert’s voice on this.
You might not notice this but the track has a bottleneck guitar playing one chord all the way through. Weird or what?
lyrics
When I look into your eyes, there’s darkness in the fire.
You wear a golden mask, but there's tears behind the smile.
There’s more to this than meets the eye, in a world of twisted things.
It’s not hard to see the reasons why, what is, and what should have been.
I want to trust you, but it’s so hard to do.
You'll never give it up; you'll never let me in.
Behind the cool facade, you’re tearing us apart.
Your heart is made if steel, and the pain is all too real.
We're beginners, saints and sinners,
in this, game of losers and winners.
But we must strive, to survive,
and make a difference, in this broken world.
So how can I love you dear, when you’re pushing me away?
Your unreachable, untouchable, but you’ll let me in one day
I want to trust you, but it’s so hard to do.
You'll never give it up; you'll never let me in.
Behind the cool façade, your heart is made if steel,
and the pain is all too real.
We're beginners, saints and sinners
in this, game of, losers and winners.
But we must strive, to survive,
and make a difference, in this broken world.

The first official outing of the "what would be" Steve Rothery Band. Riccardo Romano was missing with his keyboard wizardry and no singer at all (later Martin Jakubsky of Stillmarillion). Marillion's catalogue was represented by excerpts of instrumental sections where Steve had his solo spot. This is a milestone in the forming of a great band that later became the spokesman of early Marillion era and of course of Steve's solo material. BBT are standard bearers for modern prog, with a sound that evokes the spirit of those legendary 70s bands whilst managing to also be thoroughly contemporary. It's astonishing that over 30 minutes of music of this quality, with such high production values, is being made available for free - and their full albums are also very reasonably priced...
